Y3W ~ Strong or Stupid?

Yesterday was a big, fat, huge FAIL! He did not take one single nap! He never really even fell asleep nursing because when I broke the latch he popped right back up. We put him to bed extra early and he was in his crib (screaming) by 5:30. It took 45 mins of screaming before he fell asleep ... for 30 mins!!! Another 15 mins of screaming later and he finally fell asleep for the night. He woke up at 2 to nurse and woke at 4:30, 5:30 and 6 but went back pretty quickly on his own. We got up at 7 so I guess that's a success.

So we're on to another day and the first nap isn't going any better than it has in days past. When does it get easier? Am I even doing the right thing? This isn't working and I hate hearing him scream. He needs me and I'm ignoring him. That's how I feel. I feel like a horrible mother. If it was actually working I might feel the pain is worth it, but when will it work? This whole week has been one terrible, horrible, no good, very bad week and I just want it to be over. I'm so tired of the screaming. It breaks my heart. I'm losing my resolve. I just want to know when it will end. HELP!

  1. I'm so sorry hun - I can't imagine how hard this is for you. I think you ARE doing the right thing, because you are doing what you think is best - and you're the mom! You have tried everything and this is the next step. I can't sit here and tell you it will get better because I can't tell the future, but please know you have lots of people rooting for both you and Matthew. You can do it! And it HAS to get better eventually, please try to hang in there!

  2. I am so sorry. :( This sleep/nap crap is so hard. I am right there with you but I am not in a good enough space emotionally to try what you are trying right now. I hope in a couple weeks we can really get down to business too. I agree with the first comment - you are THE MOM, do what you feel is the best for your little man. :)
    hugs!!

  4. We are right there with you! My husband I started sleep training our little guy 2 nights ago. Tonight was the best so far with only 15 min of crying then he fell asleep. But he woke back up 45min later and was hysterical! We could not calm him so after 1 hour so we restarted the evening as recommended in Sleeping Through the Night by Jodi Mindell. I nursed him and my husband read stories then back to bed. He only cried for 12 minutes then fell asleep. Fingers crossed that it lasts this time!

This book gave us a focus of starting with bedtime first and leaving everything else the same. Then once bedtime works with minimal tears work on the sleeping through the night without nursing then work on naps. We're going to give it a try. Good luck to you!
